WANT TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER? If you would like to become a shelter volunteer, we have lots of ways that you can get involved. To get started, fill out our volunteer application and attend one of our Volunteer Orientations held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 am (second Saturday for February only), or the third Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. For more information, contact Ann Lorenz, Community Outreach Coordinator at 563-582-6766, or send an email to ann@dbqhumane.org. All volunteers must be at least 12. Volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult (18 or over) at all times.

| Reading with Rover Children in grades K-3 can read to shelter pets through partnerships with the Library, the Boys & Girls Club Prescott Elementary school. We need a several volunteers - some to sit and listen and others to read to the kids. Library (first floor kids' area): Saturday, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13, Dec. 11 (10:30 to 11:15 AM) Saturday, August 14: Volunteers needed for Reading with Rover at the Library from 10:30 to 11:15. (Bring your own staff-approved RWR dog.) |

| Volunteer Orientations Upcoming volunteer orientation dates are: *New* Thursdays from Noon to 1 Thursday, September 16from 5:30 to 6:30 PM (typically every third Thursday) Saturday, September 4 (typically every first Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30) All volunteers must be at least 12. Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. This adult must also attend the orientation. |

| Pet Therapy Openings Luther Manor at 1:30 on these dates: Mondays: September 13, October 11, November 8, and December 13. Cozy Corner Adult Day Care: Second Thursdays at 1:30, fourth Tuesdays at 1:30 Email ann@dbqhumane.org if you'd like to take one of these sessions. You'd need to transport two small staff-owned dogs that ride great in a car! |

| DRHS at the Dubuque Farmers' Market The Farmers' Market is one of Dubuque's oldest traditions...over 150 years to be exact! This open air market is a great place to find fresh produce, plants and baked good. We've been invited to bring our "Pets on the Road" to the market on these dates. Sign up to sit with a pet. | Volunteers needed for Pets on the Road Friday, September 10 at Petsmart from 10 to 3 Sunday, September 12 at Petsmart from Noon to 1:30 or 1:30 to 3 Saturday, September 18 at PETCO from 10 to 12:30 Thursday, October 14: Community Expo at the Tri-State Blind Association, 3333 Asbury Road. Shifts are 1 to 2:30 or 2:30 to 4 (Feel free to work both shifts if you want.) |
