Title: Animal Care Technician

Reports to: The Animal Care Supervisor

                               

Summary

The Animal Care Technician performs routine animal care and related duties at the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. The Animal Care Technician must always strive for excellence and be enthusiastic and a team player. Animal experience is preferred, but not required; training will be provided.

 

Essential Job Functions:

• Thoroughly clean animal enclosures and provide animals with new blankets, toys, food, and water as instructed

• Observe animals during cleaning and report any concerning behaviors to Director of Operations

• Complete laundry and dishes for each required area of Kinsey’s Campus

• Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to ensure a clean, pleasant, and organized work environment including all areas that customers can and cannot see

• Maintain good care of cleaning equipment

• Janitorial duties, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, taking out garbage

• Wipe down counters and windows

• Pick up feces and wipe up urine in animal enclosures between cleanings

• Greet and provide timely, compassionate, and courteous service to customers, visitors, and volunteers as they enter Kinsey’s Campus

• Provide accurate information to customers and volunteers about the DRHS’ policies and procedures

• Other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

• Have steadfast belief in the mission, policies, and procedures of the DRHS

• Animal handling skills

• Multi-tasking skills

• Flexibility in hours

• Lift up to 50 lbs

• Stand and sit for long periods of time, bend, twist, and stoop

 

Working Environment

The Animal Care Technicians will encounter regular exposure to animal odors, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches, animal waste, and high noise levels.
