Heartworms

Once your pet gets heartworms, it's a difficult condition to treat. The drugs used to eradicate the worms contain arsenic,which can be more dangerous than the disease. When heartworms are caught early, however, they are far easier to treat than at later stages. That's why it's very important to see your vet at the first sign of symptoms, which could include coughing, rapid beathing and fatigue.
